The Model United Nations Program at BIS
The Model United Nations (MUN) experience gives students the chance to view global problems, voice their opinion on those issues with no hesitation and finally reach a solution through negotiation and debate.
‘MUNning’ lies at the very heart of BIS. Every year BIS students take part in different Model UNs. The academic year starts with United Nations in Sessions (UNIS) that is organized and put together by ex-students and senior students of the school. UNIS is compulsory for the students of Std. VIII, IX and X. The aim is to expose them to what a Model UN effectively does. Juniors learn by watching their seniors and slowly get inducted into a deeper understanding of the program. The Secretariat that consists of our ex-students and senior students work with immense commitment to deliver this program effectively.
The dedication, commitment, involvement and professionalism of these ardent munners is apparent in every detail—be it the preparation of websites, spreadsheet relating to costs, study guides, country allocations or the induction of students into the formal process of munning. It’s great to see how the students, ex-students, teachers and staff members work together to ensure that these events are perfectly organised. Needless to mention, for the Senior BIS students, these are among the most stimulating and fulfilling events of the school year. Students of Std. IX and X also take part in two local MUNs (at least) and one international MUN.
